How To Start A Stroller Fitness Club In 7 Easy Steps


A stroller fitness club is a good way for mums to get together, make friends and get healthy. Some organised clubs exist, but if you don’t have a stroller fitness club in your area then you don’t need to go without. You can simply start your own club! Here is my quick guide to setting up your own stroller fitness club like this one.

Step 1 – Get Yourself A Stroller

You will need a good jogging stroller suitable for running with your baby in a safe and secure way. Its not that hard nowadays because the amount of strollers on the market is huge. There are lots of different colours, features and ultra modern inventions – all these you can find easily. For jogging you should pay attention to a few very important things.

First of all wheels. Jogging stroller must have big wheels, bigger than usual, with tires suitable for moving fast on different surfaces. Pneumatic tires will provide a smoother ride.

Second – hand breaks. Jogging is an outdoor sport so its clear you must be super attentive and have an ability to stop anytime in any situation. Hand brakes will help you out here and will let you stay in total control of your stroller.

Third – safety harness. Of course jogging will make a stroller shake a bit so your baby must be 100% safe from falling out, just don’t take any chances  and strap them down. Modern jogging strollers have safety harness to fix the baby in position while jogging. Also its great if your stroller has a wrist strap – which will be good if you don’t want your stroller to get ahead of you going down hills. Pay attention to these important things.

Step 2 – Choose a Good Place To Workout

Jogging is free form of exercise and of course you can do it anywhere you want you can go offroad and even up mountains if you want. Of course jogging with stroller is little different. Although modern jogging strollers provide smooth ride I think the best place to workout and jog with strollers is a park. You can find nice scenery and green lawns where you can stop and do exercises in front of your baby strollers together.

The park is more comfortable for jogging with strollers because it has good paths so you won’t have any problems with smooth ride without any ‘shaking stress’ for your baby. And of course it’s very beautiful in the park with lots of flowers, trees, birds singing so your baby will enjoy watching nature and watching mom’s workout and for sure will develop faster. And what can be better than combining mom’s workout with entertainment the kids?

Step 3 – Find Some Other Mums

It’s not a club if you are on your own so you are going to need to find some other moms that want to join in the fun and get healthy.

  1. Ask your friends if anyone is interested in your idea.

  2. Put up some posters in the local area.
  3. Make a Facebook group.

  4. Start a group on

It’s only takes 3 or 4 people to start a club and soon word will spread about what you are doing and other parents will want to join in. Make sure you have a way for people to enquire about your group.

Step 4 – Decide What Exercises Will Be Done

It may be possible for you to find a local fitness instructor that will lead the class in the park for a small fee. A trained fitness instructor will make sure the group is kept motivated and that everyone follows the correct procedures and stretches for warming up and warming down.

Also, a pro fitness instructor will add in extra exercises in addition to the jogging making it a more serious work out.


Step 5 – Keep Everyone Accountable

Make it’s someone’s job to keep records so that as your fitness improves you can see the results.

If you run a regular route time how long it takes you to complete the run. Decide if you want to take measurements such as weight or waist size if you want it to be that kind of club.

With time and regular exercise you will see your numbers improve.

Step 6 – Don’t Plan Too Much Just Do It!

If you don’t want to employ a fitness instructor or if there is nobody available in your area don’t let this stop you from forming your club.

Every member of ‘club’ can be an instructor. Each session choose a new mom to show her workout and let her be the leader. It will add some fun and seriousness to your club, and will help to vary the exercises. It’s also harder to not show up if the rest of the group is depending upon you.

Any exercise is better than none. And you will be impressed how many workout videos you can find in Youtube and become yourself an instructor.

Step 7 – Make It Fun

If your club is not fun then it will not last. People will get bored and stop attending. Make sure that your club is not only about exercise. Schedule some time for chit chat between mums and make sure it’s a social occasion. This will encourage everyone to come back and make your club a success.
